Support ATL Transit Champions on Nov 2
NEW MAYOR AND COUNCIL CREATE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR A BETTER WAY OF LIVING.
Atlanta has a plan to free us from our complete dependence on cars. What Atlanta really needs from us is to elect leaders on Nov. 2 who will champion that plan. Not someday – now.
So the grassroots volunteers at BeltLine Rail Now wanted to help voters figure out which candidates A) understand what’s at stake, and B) are prepared to lead.
Realizing that bumper-sticker politics and poor communication are a big part of the problem, we set our sights on doing two things:
Hosting virtual forums that push the candidates to provide meaningful policy solutions and enough time to adequately articulate their plan; and
Create a candidate scorecard that would make it easy for voters to know who was: A. Ill-informed B. Indifferent C. Supportive, but not prepared to lead or D. a Champion for equity-driven transit solutions.
Keep in mind, the BRN candidate scorecard is just one tool. Nothing more.
The scorecard is strictly based on candidate responses to a 35-question online survey sent in August. We did our best to be thorough and fair. We wanted it to be a meaningful voter tool.
Instead of telling you who to vote for, BRN has showcased the candidates’ differences. The top scorers on the BRN scorecard have best demonstrated a deep understanding and passionate commitment to delivering BeltLine rail and the other More MARTA projects faster.
We hope you’ll read all of the survey responses and watch either the BRN or #TransFormationTuesdays forums for a more thorough representation.
There are several important issues this election, most of which are interrelated. BRN’s focus has always been to rally behind the equitable transit solution that achieves maximum community benefits using the most environmentally-friendly tech. That was -- and remains – electric-powered light rail embedded in its own greenway corridor (most likely grass) along the BeltLine.
It is our sincere hope that on November 2, Atlanta elects leaders committed to delivering the foundation of a comprehensive transit network so Atlanta’s diverse residents and visitors can enjoy the benefits.
