BRN Kicks Off Busy Season of Advocacy

THINGS ARE ABOUT TO GET INTERESTING. READY TO ROLL UP YOUR SLEEVES?

Sunday’s weather told the story. In the face of a soggy forecast, the afternoon was gorgeously sunny for BeltLine Rail Now’s first in-person post-pandemic meeting. Nearly 50 people turned out, including a dozen City Council or mayoral candidates. And the message was as clear as sunshine: Atlantans are ready to rally for light rail on the BeltLine.

BRN has spent several weeks forging a strategic plan that educates citizens about the massive project benefits. We believe light rail on the BeltLine is a powerful instrument of change for Atlanta, and a crucial step toward addressing the inequities of our past. We know that when individuals understand the value and impact of light rail in Atlanta, they will join BRN in urgently demanding its construction.

BRN is mobilizing Atlantans. We will insist on construction timelines that combat displacement. We will protest implementation strategies that fail to put high priority on the south and west sides of the city. We will advocate loudly for accountability, thorough analyses, and equitable decision-making by the agencies involved in the construction.

We’ll also shine a light on Atlanta’s upcoming elections. We will reveal for all to see the true position of candidates and track record of incumbents. Candidates who demonstrate a commitment to faster timelines and equitable segment implementation can expect the support of the fast-growing number of rail advocates. Atlantans will be keeping score.

When BRN shared its plan at Sunday’s Summer Rally, participants were so fired up they kept the strategy conversation going well past the two-hour mark  In coming days, we will be sharing additional details - and inviting your input and participation.

BeltLine rail is finally within reach… but only if you reach for it!
